By jannet at 2009-11-23 05:55:55
Stretch marks are lines on the skin that start off as raised red lines. They then turn purple, before slowly fading into flat silvery streaks. The medical name for this type of mark is stria. Stretch marks happen when the skin is stretched a lot over a short period of time, such as during pregnancy. Stretch marks are a normal part of puberty for most girls and guys. Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the elastic middle layer of skin that allows it to retain its shape. However, when constantly stretched, the dermis can break down leaving behind stretch marks. Stretch marks are unsightly lines that stem from a surge of a particular hormone known as glucocorticoid. This surge usually occurs in pregnancy, weight gain and growth spurts. As a consequence of this hormone surge, the body fails to provide collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are proteins in charge of the growth and correct of skin tissues. They also provide pliability that makes the skin elastic and firm.

Stretch marks occur in the dermis, the elastic middle layer of skin that allows it to retain its shape. However, when constantly stretched, the dermis can break down leaving behind stretch marks. Stretch marks often appear on the breast and abdomen during pregnancy. The reason is partly hormonal. During pregnancy, hormones have the job of softening the collagen ligaments of the pelvis, so that the tissues can stretch easily during childbirth. Unfortunately, the skin collagen softens as well, allowing stretch marks to form easily. Stretch marks occur in certain areas of the body where skin is subjected to continuous and progressive stretching. The glucocorticoid hormones responsible for the development of stretch marks. Stretch marks may show up as reddish or purplish lines that may appear indented and have a different texture from the surrounding skin. Stretching plays more of a role in where the marks occur and in what direction they run. Stretching alone is not the cause. Various treatments are available for the purpose of improving the appearance of existing stretch marks. Chemical peel can be used to address unwanted stretch marks, and there are new advances in laser surgeries. The degree of success with any treatment will be impacted by your age, your skin tone and even your diet.

Stretch Marks Remedies Tips

1. Drink plenty of water. Proper water intake keeps your skin soft.

2. Apply pure vitamin E oil locally to prevent or reduce stretch marks.

3. Exercise daily to keep your skin supple and free from toxins.

4. Apply aloe Vera gel, cod liver oil, or vitamin E oil to affected areas to help the healing process.

5. Eat a well-balanced nutrient rich diet.

6. Massaging on the stretch marks serves as an excellent home remedy for stretch marks removal.

7. Avoid stress as much as possible when pregnant.

A good example of these home remedies that will help you get rid of stretch-marks is simply sunbathing, though with regard to this stretch mark remedy you have to be warned of the need to wear a good sunscreen cream, and of the need to lower your expectations because sunbathing is only effective in getting rid of minor stretch marks. Another home remedy that can help you get rid of stretch-marks is exfoliation. Improving circulation around the skin through the use of hot baths and regular massages can also go a long way towards strengthening the skin and thus making it less susceptible to the formation of stretch marks.
