Menstruation

By jannet at 2009-12-03 04:36:29
Menstruation is considered as a natural phenomenon which usually occurs in the girls during the stage of adolescence which starts by the age of 12 years. Menstruation thus reflects the start of the puberty period in the females. With the very occurrence of menstruation, the adolescent girls experience different changes which occur in them, both physical and psychological. Menstruation (Greek Word, men - month) is monthly uterine bleeding outflowing through vagina onto vulva for 4-5 days every 28 days during reproductive life of a women from menarche to menopause. Menses are normal uterine function whereby endometrium prepares to receive pregnancy.

Being a woman, your body undergoes numerous changes throughout life. Initially, you go through the development of certain body parts like breasts, hairs under your arms and genital area and adding to it, are the psychological changes. By the time you learn to adjust to these changes, the time for menstruation cycle arrives that brings a long list of discomforts and problems with it.

Every month the ovaries produce one egg which is deposited in the fallopian tube. The uterine wall known as the endometrium thickens and there is increased blood circulation in the entire reproductive system. This is all in preparation of a pregnancy. However, if the woman does not get pregnant, then all these things need to be expelled from the body. This is known as the period. Once the expulsion is done, the ovaries produce a new egg and the cycle continues for another month. The vaginal menstrual bleeding mainly arterial, partly venous is a dark reddish liquid (not clotted) blood with shed endometrial tissue bits. The discharge has disagreeable smell due to the secretion of vulvar sebaceous glands and decomposition of blood elements.

This fragrant herb is efficient in stimulating menstrual cycles. It helps women who have delayed periods to get their periods on time. Young anemic girls are prone to spasmodic menstruation, which can be quite painful. A decoction of dill is prepared with the leaves of parsley to treat such problems. It may be helpful for women to take multivitamin supplements that contain iron to help with these concerns. Foods that contain good sources of iron include: meat, poultry, fish, fortified cereal, enriched rice, and legumes.

In Europe, women have been using magnetic therapy for years to relieve menstrual pain. At the beginning of a period, a small unobtrusive magnet encased in smooth plastic is worn against the skin a few inches below the navel and held in place by a second magnet on the outside of the underwear. Although these magnets (called "mn8") are small, they are quite powerful and appear to naturally help the body ease through menstrual pain, making the symptoms easier to handle or even completely eliminating them.

Foods that may help these symptoms include such things as: complex carbohydrates, high calcium foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, non-fat dairy products, lean fish, and poultry. It also may help to drink plenty of water and to exercise regularly during this time. Exercising will help to release endorphins which can help to relax women during this time. Also Vitamin B6 may help to relieve some of the PMS symptoms. Foods that may contain Vitamin B6 include: fish, chicken, broccoli, bananas, soy foods, cantaloupe and spinach. Finally, it is also important to get plenty of rest and to consult a doctor about any concerns.
